Issues Update
In past editions of Digital DNA we've provided some information about Darwin’s activities in the marketplace. Here's an update on some key developments:
1.) First is a reminder about Darwin’s lawyers professional liability capabilities and expertise in providing coverage for solo practitioners and law firms with up to 20 attorneys. The February edition of Digital DNA provided detailed information about our capabilities and appetite in this segment. Darwin will entertain mid-size and large firms on a case-by-case basis as well.
2.) In February, it was announced that we were in the process of creating two Darwin-owned and operated insurance companies. In early April we completed our hearing in Delaware for Darwin’s admitted company, Darwin National Assurance, and on April 20th we received final approval. The transaction will be completed in May.
3.) Our surplus lines authority now extends to 44 states, with the approval of Michigan and Maine in the past few weeks.
4.) On the health care front, Darwin has completed a filing in the State of Oklahoma to begin writing hospital professional liability coverage on an admitted basis. We’ll keep you posted when this is approved, which we anticipate in the next 30 days.
