i.bind
i.bind is a technology initiative that will enable Darwin to extend the reach of its Internet-based underwriting systems into the offices of approved producers. The goal is to provide complete infrastructure and a tool set of underwriting services that will streamline the specialty liability insurance transaction process and post-bind service support for producers.

i.bind goes well beyond web-enabling an insurance application. With i.bind, Darwin is redesigning the underwriting process to allow a Darwin-approved producer to complete an end-to-end specialty liability insurance transaction on-line, without requiring a duplicate hard copy application. The i.bind toolset will provide an approved producer with instant access to:

-- Submit and bind new accounts
-- Renew existing accounts
-- Issue, view and request account and policy-level detail
-- Service accounts with mid-term changes
-- Manage information and reports

The internal infrastructure phase of this project was completed in July. Since then, our focus has shifted externally to implement the first phase of this initiative with producer partners. Initially, i.bind will support management liability insurance transactions for private companies. This package coverage can include directors and officers liability insurance, employment practices liability insurance, and fiduciary liability insurance. Producers will be able to bind customized insurance polices for their clients with these coverage options.

The i.bind initiative is being led by Steffanie Goldsmith, CPCU, head of distribution technology. Kristin Walsh will manage producer selection, engagement, and education for the initiative. Darwin will be initiating a formal RFP (request for proposal) as part of the i.bind producer selection process.
